Facebook FarmVille

Tracey Dale asked:

FarmVille is a fun and addictive game made by Zynga and found on social networking websites for e.g. Facebook. You might have noticed that you are getting invitations on a daily basis from your friends saying that they need help to manage their farm in a nice manner! If you really enjoy single simulation games, then surely FarmVille on Facebook is the best game to interact with your friends and family members.

In order to start playing Facebook FarmVille, first of all you’ll need a Facebook account. If you have a friend already Facebook FarmVille since many days, you can click “Play FarmVille” on his profile account but you must sign on to Facebook. FarmVille will ask you first to create an avatar like symbol so that your friends can recognize you. Next, you can customize and edit your farmer settings and features and then start playing the game by clicking “Play”.

Once you are inside the game, you will notice that your FarmVille crops are ready for harvest.

You can simply click the button “harvest” and your crops and seeds will get harvested. You can plow as many lands as you want, but take this thing into consideration that each plow of land will cost your 15 coins and you will be earning two experience points. Before harvest, plowing or seeding any crop, make sure that you have enough farm cash or farm coins to purchase and also make sure that how much time it will take to completely harvest your land. For instance, a crop of watermelon will mostly take 4 days to get harvested. Make sure that after 4 day you harvest your land, by clicking the “harvest” link.

If you wont click the “harvest” link and delay the process, your FarmVille crops will die. But don’t worry, you can click the “unwilt” link which is able to make your crop alive again, but again, this “unwilt” click will cost your 2 coins and you will be gaining 4 experience points. Experience points are very easy to earn in this smart little game. And at last, this is the most exciting and addictive game of all Facebook.

Most people who have succeeded in business can probably tell you something about the importance of having a mentor who will be able to teach you the ropes in starting your own business. This is because the experience that these successful businessmen can impart is a very important factor in shortening your learning curve and in helping you avoid the mistakes start-up entrepreneurs usually make.

Consider the fact that 90 percent of all start-up businesses fail within five years as opposed to 90 percent of franchised businesses succeeding within the same time span and you’ll begin to appreciate the benefits of not having to reinvent the wheel to make your business work.

Social Marketing Networks
Online social marketing networks have served the purpose of educating new entrepreneurs as well as honing the skills of experienced entrepreneurs. This is because in an online social marketing network, you can ask for a business advice by posting your questions in a new forum and reading the answers given by some successful members. An article about the most common mistakes a newbie makes in any line of business alone can save you from making the same costly mistake. Furthermore, your learning curve will be much shorter as the other members in the network can help you find information, contacts and procedures that you need to start or manage your business.

Conversely, these successful businessmen can also generate leads and business opportunities through these online social marketing networks by providing the new entrepreneurs the tools they need to successfully jump start their business. All in all, social marketing networks benefit every member by making available information, means of sharing ideas, and ways of gathering information otherwise unavailable through other means.

Criteria in Choosing your Online Social Marketing Network
Of course, not all social marketing networks are the same so you must choose wisely. The best online social marketing network for you will obviously be the ones you will benefit from the most. For this reason, if you are a new entrepreneur, choosing the social marketing network with the most active and most numerous successful members will be the best choice. This is because the advice that they will be able to impart regarding your concerns will be ones based on something they have encountered before that has worked and not something they have only theorized about.

Of course, surrounding yourself with successful people in your field of business will also give you the right frame of mind and outlook in overcoming the challenges that will come your way. These people will tend to be supportive and not pessimistic because they themselves have learned to overcome these problems when they were starting out on their own.

Make sure to also choose a group that is well lead and structured as this will prove to be very important in making the transactions and conversations easier to participate in and more beneficial for the members. Beware of some social networks having very lax leadership; this defeats the purpose of creating the group in the first place with some members filling the forums with spams, advertisements, viruses etc. With social marketing networks, learn more, share more and profit more.

All About Social Media Marketing

Lee J. Green asked:

I have gone over certain characteristics of social media marketing in a number of various discussions over the years, nevertheless as far as I know I’ve never undertaken an “all-in-one” kind of article, outlining the differences that can be found with Social Media and also the many ways a person can leverage them.

Social Media is actually growing like no media has ever grown before. MySpace was one of the first mass social platforms, then Facebook, Twitter and the list goes on and on. As Internet Marketers Social Media is a comparatively new, HUGE market and opportunity, but it’s far from a secret!

Presently there are a huge number of services committed to leveraging Social Media to do this, that and the other. It is a marketing machine, nevertheless, just a tiny percentage of internet marketers are really benefiting from it because most of them are just confused by it all. This posting is my attempt at clearing up that confusion.

Let’s start off with the definition. Wikipedia states:

“Social media is content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies.”

That is the “book” meaning, however it really all comes down to the very first word “social.” Virtually any site that is actually powered by user-generated information is a social media site! With that being said, let me tell you something that most folks do not realize for a WHILE, that causes them to waste time bugging legitimate users by spamming those users… ultimately getting their accounts suspended.

In a nutshell, please understand that there are MANY different types of social media web sites and each one has it’s own benefits to you as an Internet Marketer. They are NOT all the same thing. Some can be leveraged in the same basic way. Several provide the same benefit if leveraged the right way, but all are different!

For example, social bookmarking sites such as Digg and Stumbleupon are best leveraged as direct exposure tools. Good, viral content that you generate can gain 1000′s, even millions, of new site visitors coming from these sites when your site visitors bookmark them. But, you really do not go to Digg or SU to build links (it’s all nofollowed) or even to be able to network. Truth be told there will be different social bookmarking sites which will give you a followed link. There might even be a few that are great for networking. Which is where my point comes in. They are all different!

LinkedIn is a social site that is all about networking. Meeting other people within your own area of interest. Making good friends, which is actually just what social networking is all about!

Facebook and Twitter are practical for direct exposure as well as networking. And as a side note, I tend to recommend creating separate accounts for business and private use.

Presently there is an enormous dilemma with several social media sites and spam, most definitely Twitter. This particular dilemma comes from confused entrepreneurs that do not recognize that each website is without a doubt different.

The problem is spam. Yet this spam isn’t coming from sneaky, dishonest scammers like most spam comes from. It’s coming from “newbie” Internet Marketers who are finding very broad facts relating to the subject and acting on that info without any kind of real understanding of the practical applications.

I get direct mail messages on Twitter on a regular basis from people pitching their “deal”, like we’re best friends even though I have never written to them in my life. They really do not realize that Twitter (for instance) is just like real life. Start using it so that you make friends. Communicate NORMAL to people. Get to know them, assist them, share with them.

Things like this take place on just about all of the big social sites. Each problem is definitely unique to the site it crops up on, but it all comes from users trying to use a social platform in the incorrect way. And so what’s the bottomline? Sorry to say, the best advice I can offer you, or anybody for that matter, can offer you, is to look at each and every site differently!

Every time a new social media site begins to gain popularity I create an account and start making use of it PRECISELY HOW IT’S MEANT TO BE USED. Once I know it, I then start to think of ways in which it can benefit my business, if any. It comes down to this. Almost all social media sites tend to be best leveraged by using them EXACTLY HOW THEY’RE MEANT TO BE USED!

No need to force URL’s or ads onto people you really don’t know. Don’t bend or even break the rules of the sites. Merely sign up. Find out the main objective and intention of the site and then use it. Promoting and marketing isn’t always about ads and pushy sales talk. It’s also about making contacts, expressing ideas and information, helping people better their lives. It’s basically being active and involved.

Monetizing the Social Network

A review of ways marketers can align with these consumer hot spots.

Online social networks are hot. Those who participate in them belong to two, three, four, maybe even more than 10 or 20 different ones. They enjoy their features, upload photos, request business contacts and talk with friends.

For now, consumers get to do this for free. For now.

Although social networking in the offline world may be well-established — monetized through conferences, venues, referral fees and headhunters — the online world seems to just be examining the methods of monetization. The general principle still stands: if you have a large database of active users, you can make money — right?

Here is how it is being done today:

Advertising — A quick review of ad dollar expenditures in the U.S. reveals that only a small portion of the total is spent online — but that is going to change fast. Online advertising is once again booming — and just as public television and print media often can be sustained from pure advertising models, online is no different. The leading social networking sites (MySpace, Friendster and LinkedIN, along with many others) are primarily supported by advertising. Although their aggressive growth strategies mean that some may still be losing money, advertising represents a substantial amount of revenue.

Revenue Share/Per Transaction Fees — Someone clicks on her friend’s profile on Friendster and sees that he loves HBO’s hit series “Deadwood.” Clicking on the term ‘Deadwood” brings up all the other members who have the same interest — and an easy-to-purchase link for the “Deadwood” Season One DVD through Amazon. It’s essentially a focused advertising arrangement — marketers now have precision targeting through social networking profiles, tapping into user interests — and offering purchase options within very specific filters.

Events — Although revenue numbers generated from MySpace-style events are difficult to come by, these events are known to be well attended and a driving force behind MySpace’s impressive growth. In general, while it’s unlikely that offline events account for more than 10 percent of any social network’s revenue, events do make for great content and word-of-mouth advertising.

Moving forward, compelling new ways to monetize social networks will continue to emerge. The downside, however, is that some of these methods may not be in the user’s best interest — and they might end up taking the “cool” edge off these communities.

The Buying Club/Affiliate Revenue Models — With Buy.com’s purchase of Metails, a major offline and online retailer has recognized the power of social networking and made a commitment to the space. Yub.com enables users to develop their own social network focused around products, product ratings and, more importantly, a point-based rewards system that lets members benefit from a friend’s purchases. While Yub.com feels like heavy retail — with a full online mall that has grown rapidly in the last few months — the site is building a large user base and enticing members to recommend products to friends.
Although the buying club mentality might work only within certain types of social networks, the notion of a point system that rewards users for certain activities should be embraced more broadly. By developing a currency system, a social networking site can create very real incentives (promotions, giveaways, contests, fundraisers) for specific actions, from which everyone can benefit.

Corporate Sponsorship — Does being a fan of a brand mean that you want the owner of that brand to have all of your personal profile information? Practically speaking, the answer has to do with the type of brand and the reward the user receives for sharing that information. Corporations will take notice of these social networks and begin offering competitive services with products and (if they are smart) experience-based rewards. Just as Icelounge (described as a “MySpace for skaters”) was launched, larger brands will begin to do the same. Increased brand loyalty and sales opportunities will lead directly to monetization.

Country Clubs/Membership Fees — The SNS world can be a field of dreams — albeit for a price. As social networking site ASmallWorld.com has recently demonstrated, if you build a great social network — making it “invite-only,” with restrictions on activities — well, everyone wants to join. Naseeb likewise has proven that a focused social network, aimed at a specific niche, can justify an admission charge. From where I sit, I’d much rather be part of a social network with fewer members, no advertising, and no corporate sponsorship but that charges for entry.

Overall, social networking sites are experiencing hockey stick growth and, in the process, influencing new types of two-way brand experiences and community building on the web. Although the approaches to monetization outlined here just scratch the surface, revenue models abound. Any repository of personal data and contact information on a large group of users (perhaps better to call them “consumers”) inevitably translates to profit opportunities.

Let’s just hope that all our email accounts and personal profiles don’t end up in a spam database though a dot-com SNS auction.

Define Twitter

Peter Hupuczi asked:

To define Twitter I would say Twitter is a social networking and micro blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Basically tweets are text-based posts what the users are using to share an interesting story or a cool website.

Unfortunately you are limited with the words what you can tweet. You have up to 140 characters to use including spaces and special characters. These short messages are displayed on your Twitter profile page and delivered to your subscribers who are known as followers.

More followers you have the better it is since more people could read your tweets. Twitter is ranked as one of the 50 most popular websites worldwide by Alexa’s web traffic analysis. This means they have nice traffic on their website.

Google is #1 website who gets most of the traffic since people go to their website to search what they are interesting about! So #50 is not a bad place compare to the over 100 million other websites on the internet.

Since Twitter has been born people realised the tweet power and started to use it as a business promotional tool. Twitter is fun and it’s a brand new way to share your business, blog or whatever and make it known to the world. Social media is great for spreading news quickly.

Twitter is a simple and great device that helps connect businesses and people more meaningfully with the right audience at the right time. Tweets may be short, but they have proven over and over again to contain valuable information. Twitter is a new way of mobile messaging which will not replacing SMS, or email but introducing a new public dimension to messaging.

Is Your Online Business LinkedIn?

Robert David Strong asked:

There are close to 70 million users on LinkedIn. Are you and your business part of that 70 million? Just like many other social media sites there are many ways to interact with other like minded individuals. If you are considering using LinkedIn for your business by conversing with others, check out the following types of people on LinkedIn.

The Mighty Lion

As funny as it sounds, or may seem, there are individuals that are called LION’S. LinkedIn Lions are really just LinkedIn Open Networkers, people that want to really interact and socialize with everybody. The approach is to connect to as many people as possible in order to reach out to thousands of different people. If you are into network marketing and are looking for leads or future business partners, this tends to be a good choice. This is no different than the shot gun approach, something is bound to happen. A LION is one to share his or her LinkedIn URL with as many people as they can to encourage them to become friends. With individuals taking this approach on LinkedIn they normally have thousands of connections, the largest I’ve heard of is 45,000.

The Professional

The Professional networker on LinkedIn uses his or her peers to further their careers by linking with other professionals in their field. The majority of your LinkedIn users do fall into this category. The Professional networker is one who connects normally with someone they have had previous interactions with and feel connecting will be beneficial. As you come in contact with more professional networks you will find many have 250 to 1,500 connections, which is still quite impressive. This type of networker also links to friends of friends if they feel that they connection could have a positive outcome.

The Only If I Know You

Believe it or not there are many “networkers” that will only talk to you, accept your invitations, or give you the time of day if they know you. Those networkers are ones that are very selective on who they trust and who they link with. You might be thinking this is very strange to be this selective and secretive on a social networking site. In the very beginning I also thought it was very strange until I started investigation why they were doing this. I found out that some networkers don’t want other clients to see who they are all connected to. You wouldn’t want two competing clients see you talk or consult them in a professional manner. Another reason is that any cutting edge ideas or breakthroughs you may want to be kept secret. You would not want any of your competitors taking your hottest clients or their ideas. With this type of networker you find that they have very deep roots with the people they are linked to.

It All Depends On You

You are the determining factor when it comes to your LinkedIn style or type. Just remember what you do and how you do it can determine for you the type of networker you will be. If you share with the world your URL profile you will be asked to be linked to many individual. Some words of wisdom for you, and this actually does pertain to anywhere online…if you don’t want hundreds of emails or phone calls, don’t share that information.

What Can You Expect

Once you get “LinkedIn” with this site and start networking you will find many successful business minded people. As you start building your network you will be providing good information to theirs, and they will do the same. You will find many people that have very specific skills that you may have not mastered yet. Building relationship is about helping each other out to obtain certain goals. You will find that you will be able to find many people like you and the relationship build will be quite easy.

So, get out there and get to linking!

Kathryn Lively asked:

One question I’m asked often is how much time should one devote to building a social profile to promote a business or service. Is there a set number of tweets to post, how much flair should one add to a Facebook page, how often should one blog. Of course, the answer is going to differ for each person – what works for one might not for another, and I’m of the belief that get back from anything exactly what you put into it. If you feel social media best captures your audience (which is likely for a restaurant or entertainment venue) concentrate on your profiles more and interact with other users. Attracting more people to your social networks is not difficult to do, either, nor should it cost your entire marketing budget.

Word of mouth will always be king in the marketing world: you go to a restaurant because a friend loved the food there, you buy a book from an author a relative adores. When it comes to ramping up your

Jay Deragon asked:

Facebook’s massive growth and recent tactics paint a clear picture as to their strategy, surround and capture. Is Facebook following a military strategy?

Military strategies try to surround and capture as an objective. The military applies simulated maneuvers to define the enemies possible moves when certain strategies and related tactics are used against them. By doing such exercises the military can decide how to best use “war assets” including technology, air, land and sea equipment as well as weapons and human resources.

Businesses have examined and applied military strategies to dominate a market and demolish competitors for years. Many businesses look at the marketplace as war, always trying to surround and capture people.

Today these same strategies are being applied to win a war for consumer attention on and off the web. This war is aimed at surrounding and capturing people and organizations data which becomes the primary objective. Data drives information that creates new knowledge. It is a war for gaining economic control fueled by the knowledge of what drives the digital economy. An enemy is viewed as anyone or organization that has the power (knowledge) to capture people’s activity (data) and use that data against you. So in the world of all things social who is your enemy?

Is Facebook Engaged in War?

Lets consider the relevant issues that leads one to consider that Facebook is engaged in a war to get our data before others do. How? By dominating the web and our attention aimed at surrounding and capturing our collective data. Consider the multiple strategies used by military operations and compare it to Facebook’s behavior.

Attrition – A strategy of wearing down competitors to the point of collapse through continuous loss of attention, attraction, affinity which keeps the audience contained for more actions. Contained in Facebook. Bait & Bleed – A military strategy similar to the concept of divide and conquer. Facebook pulls people and organizations into their web only to fuel advertising revenue. But the bigger position is to garner the data from what, where, when, what, why,how and who has an affinity to what and whom. The data is the gold which reveals information and knowledge about the intersection of technology and human behavior. The digital economy represents said intersection and its relevant meaning. Annihilation – The goal of destroying an opposing forces in a single planned pivotal move. Have you noticed what Facebook does when something like Four Square shows promise? They copy and improve the model and the attraction with the aim of dominating attention. Shock & Awe – Technically known as rapid dominance, is a military doctrine based on the use of overwhelming power. Wonder why Facebook changes privacy terms, adds functions and features without consultation with brands or organizations using their platform? These moves distract and leave you in shock and awe. Blockading – Trying to cut off data, information, knowledge or communications from a particular area by force, usually taking place without notice. If you are a brand ask yourself who has your consumer data. You or Facebook? Does Facebook try and sell brands the data against user preferences? Switch & Hold – A counter-insurgency strategy. As soon as you think your advertising and marketing strategies are working on Facebook they change the terms, conditions and do so to their advantage, not yours. Counter Offensive- A strategic offensive taking place after your patience and reserves have been exhausted, and before you have had the opportunity to assume new defensive positions.

All of these strategies ultimately lead to a master plan of “surround and capture”. In the digital economy if your offering surrounds the media and all the media points their audience to you well you have effectively surrounded the market. The irony is that the market has helped you surround themselves.

Brands beware that you are giving Facebook weapons of data to be used against you. Name a brand that doesn’t encourage their market to “connect” with them on Facebook?

Once you’ve surrounded the market, businesses and people (500 million strong on Facebook), then you have captured them. In doing so you now have their data and all the information about their activities which creates a powerful knowledge inventory that no one else has. Ever heard that knowledge is power? Those that have more of it can win a war. Have you noticed that Facebook’s traffic has now exceeded Google’s?

People Don’t Like to Be Surrounded, Captured or Involved in War

If Facebook has adopted a military strategy and is waging a war (certainly appears so) then the people and businesses that live in Facebook’s country will probably leave sooner or later. Have you noticed an undercurrent of the market distrust, exodus, concern and questioning of motives? The battle for people’s attention will always be waged but the war will be won by the will of the people. Maybe Facebook ought “pay” attention to the will of the people and brands before the people exercise their will and leave.

Is Social Marketing A Fun Business?

With more and more people coming to the internet marketing, practices have changed over the last couple of years. Many businesses are now taking advantage of the new trends and are using social marketing to promote their businesses. There are many different ways that you can do this.

Web2 has a whole set of tools that you can use for social marketing. MySpace is just one of them.

Using sites like MySpace: This site will allow you to have a page and make contacts, you should not blatantly advertise here. You will be able to build up business relationships here, with your contacts. It also allows you to put in a classified ad for your business in a special section. You can attract a general audience from this form of promotion. It does not work well for niche markets and you will have to be very careful for network marketing opportunities.

Using video sites like Flicker and UTube: using videos to advertise your products is a relatively new concept. Even Google has made video an option for searches. This will work well for products. You will attract a fairly general audience with this form of marketing. You can make it more targeted by linking it to your blog “Seeing is believing” and if you use a good quality video, you can indeed sell products in this way.

Forums and business networks:

Forums and business networks are very useful and fun places to use for promotions. You cannot advertise at these places, but you can use your little signature file at the bottom of every post. Do not involve yourself in lengthy, time consuming discussions. Remember to post valid questions and useful answers. You will become known as an expert in your field and people from the forum will come to your website to check out what you have. They will also join your newsletter.

You can sometimes submit small articles to some business networks and start discussions or threads like this. It is a good away to sell yourself if you have a service. Always choose forums and business networks that target your particular niche.

Blogging: Blogging is an enjoyable way to promote your business. This is a web log or small daily diary. You will need to blog everyday for this to be affective. Remember to always target your particular niche. Make a special link for each blog that will lead back to your site. This can link back to an article or a special product- preferably a new one. Remember not to ramble and keep it concise. Submit your blog to all the blogging search engines. Over time, you will build a good clientele and bring good quality traffic to your site. You can also gain subscribers to your newsletter this way. Blogging can gain you valuable back links which will help you to get a better search engine position.

Social marketing is a fun way to promote your business and very cost effective. In fact, many of these methods are free. Many marketers have built their empires using social marketing. It’s worth spending a little time everyday to practice this fun form of marketing.

Farmville is one of the most versatile games going. With a simple grid formation you can create your farm in an almost unlimited number of ways, just like a real farm! Here are a few Farmville layout ideas to give you some inspiration.

Inspect Your Neighbours’ Farms Closely

The first thing you should do is to simply look at the farms of your neighbours, especially those who are at intermediate to advanced levels. This can give you a good idea of how to organise your own farm.

To do this, either visit their farm or check out their profile photos as many players have screen captures of their farms stored there.

Decide What Kind Of Farmer You Want To Be?

What is your priority when it comes to your farm?

Do you want it to look nice and to make some good money? Or would you rather optimise it for money? Or do you prefer it to look absolutely perfect and you do not really care about money except to buy more stuff to decorate your farm with?

Going For The Gold

If your priority is making money then you should dedicate the vast majority (ideally 90% or more) of your land to growing crops on. It won’t look pretty stuffing all your animals and trees into a tiny corner but it will make you more money.

If you decide to go via this route then I recommend planting similar crops next to each other. For example, plant all your strawberries next to each other and all your pumpkins next to each other. If you follow this plan then they should all mature for harvest at roughly the same time and you won’t be wasting time moving around your farm and clicking all over the place.

Going For The Show

If you only care about what your farm looks like then you may want to sketch your idea before going ahead and creating it.

Some people use Photoshop, a spreadsheet or even regular grid-lined paper to sketch out and modify their ideas before going ahead and buying and placing the stuff they want.

If you need more inspiration for your layout and your neighbour’s farms just are not giving you what you need then check out the official Zynga Farmville forum. There are several threads (including one with over 600 pages) where people are showing off their farms.

Most of the Facebook Farmville Cheat hints, tips, growing your best crops, experience points, free stuff, how to level up in Farmville fast, trees guide. golden chicken, Farmville cash are discussed and published in other articles. Make sure that you read them and maintain your lead position in Facebook Farmville Game.
