Facebook Game – Medical Mayhem Review

Mabel Lee asked:

My parents always wanted me to be a doctor when I grow up! Now I finally have a chance to be one! Here I am, right behind Facebook and in the comfort of my home. Medical Mayhem is actually a tribute to the TV Show Scrubs. Vojoworld put a lot of effort in trying to create a game that can be enjoy by the fans of the cult TV Series and also new comers to the world of Medical practice.

Gameplay
Medical Mayhem has one of the oddest gameplay I have seen in Facebook for a long time. Unlike any simulators that players encounter in Facebook, Medical Mayhem surely is one that you will never forget after sinking your head 2 hours into the game.

First thing I do notice about this game was the dark humor. The way this game portrays how hospital should be run is really the opposite of what you see in actual life. Highly train doctors are more like mad scientist or doctor quack that has either no idea of what they are doing or just plain MAD. Nurses are highly brainless with hot sexy bodies which flirt with their patients. While playing this game you will wonder at times if you are actually running a hospital or a mental asylum?

Now the game mechanics work rather easy. The tutorial will guide players how to built up your hospital and make sure that it is properly furnish before your grand opening. Rooms and medical research can be upgraded and there is no need to monitor your workers. Everything is done automatically, making it easy for players to manage the game. Players can even leave the game running for days without worrying to check back on the progress.

Interesting part of the game is of course upgrading your hospital. If you read all the small notes that come with it, you will probably rolling on the floor laughing. Upgrading any of the hospital facilities allow player to see how the doctors works and how they utilize their medical practice. Researching on new medical breakthroughs or even training your staff can be a lot of fun in this game.

Aside from tending to your daily management this game also provides players with various types of mini-games which are refresh every 5 minutes you play it. Most of the mini-games are rather similar to what you find in other Facebook games, except that it is more twisted. You have to play to find out about it yourself.

Once done with all the normal routine, if players feel like causing some chaos on your beloved neighbors, Medical Mayhems provide a few small, but devastating ways to ensure that your neighbors will either love you or hate you to death. You can send spies to spy on their progress, use sexy nurses to flirt with their customers or even destroy the way they run their hospitals. This is fun for those who really love to get some revenge on their friends.

Graphic
Not really the best graphic you seen in Facebook. The game is lacking in colors and options to zoom closer to take a look at your hospital in details. One lucky thing is that this game is so funny that you would not really mind how the game looks.

Sound
No sound whatsoever in this game. This is a waste, really.

Conclusion
If you love the TV Show Scrubs and definitely want something that is totally different from the other Facebook games, I would really recommend you play Medical Mayhem.

Rating to this game is 4 out of 5.

LinkedIn Vs Plaxo

Peter Dobler asked:

If you are an avid social network user, you have heard about LinkedIn and/or Plaxo. These are the leading social network sites, especially for IT profesionals. So, what can you expect from these sites and which one is the better choice?

First up LinkedIn:

LinkedIn was founded by Reid Hoffman. He started LinkedIn with the distinct knowledge he collected during his stay at PayPal. When eBay bought PayPal, it was not because PayPal was a superior money transfer program, but because of its member base. Armed with this knowledge, LinkedIn quickly approached 9 million members shortly after its first release. Now it has over 25 million members and it is growing at a rapid pace.

LinkedIn offers a free and a paid membership. The free membership is preferred for the casual user of the site. If you want to manage your connections more effective and possibily build new business via LinkedIn, the paid membership id recommended.

If you’re an Outlook user, LinkedIn offers a nice plugin that helps to keep your Outlook contacts up-to-date with changes in the LinkedIn information. This is especially useful if you have a large connection net and use LinkedIn as your personal address book. I really like to “Grab” function of the plugin. It allows to mark address information in an email and then automatically create an Outlook contact. It is very accurate and reduces manual typing.

Next up Plaxo:

Plaxo was founded by Todd Masonis and Camron Ring. They realized quickly that the success of a social network site is messured by its free tools and integration into as many email clients as possible. 40 million members are living proof that integration and superior tools are key success factors.

Like LinkedIn, Plaxo offers a free and a paid membership. Instead of more communication possibilities, Plaxo offers more tools to colaborate in the paid membership. You can upload your Outlook calendar as a free member, but you need to be a paid member to synchornize your online Plaxo calendar with your Outlook calendar. This is very useful if you want to combine your private calendar with your work calendar.

Personally I like to Plaxo Outlook plugin better than the LinkedIn plugin. It is better integrated and I like the feature that downloads the Plaxo pictures into your Outlook contacts. When you read an email from a contact that has a picture it shows in your inbox. Very nice.

Summary

Both sites are very reputable social networks with millions of members. I use both. LinkedIn as the primary network for all my contacts. Plaxo as the added information resource with a nice Outlook integration.

One of the advantages in combining both systems. Plaxo keeps track on its member’s birthdays. LinkedIn does not. But if you have a connection in Plaxo it downloads the birthdate and the LinkedIn dashboard will remind you to send a card.

I recommend both sites equally and a membership in both is a good investment.

Menno Spijkstra asked:

There are a lot of benefits Facebook brings to entrepreneurs who want to promote their businesses or brands in this most popular social networking site these days. There is the Facebook page where you can create a page (like your own site) named after you or the product that you are promoting. Then, you can invite people to become your fans or followers. With Facebook page, you have to foster better interaction with your fans. You can also add more than 5,000 friends which is quite an advantage compared to creating a group page. But apart from these benefits, viral marketing through Facebook Page is one factor that can truly leverage your business.

How? Well, once a person becomes your fan and interacts with you (through comments), you will appear in their news feeds, too. Thus, their friends will be able to see you and even add your page if you get to spark their interest. You have to realize how important it is to make time to interact with people in your network. Don’t just bombard people with updates and promotions, but also make sure that you share with them valuable information. In Facebook, you can share links, photos, and videos. A good profile with useful updates is what you must have if you want to maximize the benefits of Facebook pages.

It is easy to set up a Facebook page. Although you can directly register your company or brand, you have to create your own profile using your own identity. This won’t be much of a problem since you can change the page name anyway. There are many ways that you can do in order to maximize Facebook page and use it to the advantage of your business. This I will have to discuss more in my next post.

William Balderaz asked:

Every generation says “we live in strange times.” But even previous generations would have to look at 2010 and admit that we are in the midst of fundamental shifts in media, technology and communication.

It is no longer significant to point out how people are relying more on social media and less on print and broadcast media, or that advertisers are shifting dollars rapidly from traditional media outlets to search and social media. This information has trickled down to even the least savvy professionals.

But in spite of all this, there is still this perception that somehow broadcast and print media are more legitimate, especially to marketing and communication folks. Businesses love to see when people on Facebook make wall comments and those comments drive Web site traffic and that traffic converts to business. Or when getting ReTweeted results in their store filling up with customers. Or when a blog post helps them get a call back from a prospect.

The thing is, there is nothing like seeing your name in print. Even if those 500 media pickups from your online press release drive a lot of new business, there is just a “something” about seeing your name in the business section of the local paper, even if it can’t be tracked, measured or attributed to a single sale. Now here it the challenge. Every week there are two fewer newspapers in the US. Magazines are going from weekly publication schedules to monthly, or going entirely online, or just going away. Reporters are being laid off. There are fewer places to earn print media.

And if you’re like most marketers, you hear that reporters get so many phone and e-mail pitches, they don’t bother reading most of them. But… they do use Twitter and LinkedIn to find sources and post queries. The next question is, “okay that is great, how and when do I use LinkedIn and Twitter to reach the media.” Here are the ways to be the most successful in your efforts.

Twitter is about Just-In-Time communication with the media. Yes, you can and should Tweet your news releases, but don’t expect a viral explosion over the announcement of your new Web site. Like so many other aspects of social media, the real value is in listening. Follow the reporters, editors and analysts you most want to reach. At the very least, you’ll learn what topics that reporter cares about. If their main focus is on cloud computing, stop pitching them on why IT directors need social media policies. The real home run is when they send out those delicious urgent queries. When reporters need a source right now, they Tweet for it. Respond fast with a good pitch or source, and you’re on your way to a great pickup.

LinkedIn is about Just-In-Case communication with the media. By building a descriptive LinkedIn profile, you make it easy for the media to find you. Are you a CTO at a midsized company in California? Make sure to use those clear precise words in your LinkedIn Profile. Think like a reporter. If they need to talk to the president of a retailer in the home improvement business, what keywords are they likely to use? Okay, that helps them find you. Now let’s be proactive. Any time you meet with, talk to, hear from or have any real life connection to a reporter, find them on LinkedIn and connect with them. Today’s LinkedIn connections are yesterdays’ Rolodex. By having that relationship built with a reporter, you have access to her via a direct channel when you need to get a story out and they have access to you when she needs a source.

Why Bother With "LinkedIn" And "Facebook"?

John Clark II asked:

That’s what I used to ask myself as numerous acquaintances kept tagging me to be part of their realm of contacts in FaceBook.com or LinkedIn.com. It seemed a nuisance until I sat down with an old contact, Don Tinney from EOSProcess (EOS=Entrepreneurial Operating Systems). Don is a business consulting whose job is quite simple. He says simply, “We make millionaires out of owners of small to medium size companies”.

I was in both LinkedIn and FaceBook and didn’t see the significance. My business was humming along just fine and didn’t need the distraction. Don forced my mind open a bit and so I took it upon myself to find out if there was some gold to mine there that I had missed. Like hunting for Morel mushrooms, it went from “none to be found” to being surrounded with all kinds of uses. Here is my quick rundown of uses in the hopes all our business partners can begin to take advantage of these tools.

To begin with, I’m going to concentrate on LinkedIn because I find it the most dialed in of the two for “business networking”. While I’m in Facebook also my contacts there are almost all personal life related. Sure, we all can use a few friends but the majority of my day is more about business and LinkedIn appears to me to have a larger corner on it.

So if you…

Are new to LinkedIn and don’t know how to use it to help your business and career Have been using LinkedIn yet felt like you haven’t really accomplished anything with it Are trying to persuade your friends to join LinkedIn and want need to communicate the value of it Wondering if LinkedIn type sites can help increase your web site’s visibility Think there’s no real value in LinkedIn

…then this is for you!
Here is a small amount I’ve learned about using LinkedIn, understanding there are millions of users who know a whole lot more about it than I do. This still should give you a starter kit on the value. It will also be a great link section to teach you as much as you can possibly know about this.

Off-Site Factors Enhance Your Web Site’s Ranking More than On-Site Optimization

The original criteria the creators of Google used to rank web sites is still the same as it is today. It ranked sites according to the value of the web sites that linked to the evaluated web site. If you have dozens of important sites with links to your site and those sites are related in subject matter to what your site is all about, it will out weight many of the things you put (or fail to put) in your site for rankings.

When you have links to your web site in your LinkedIn or Facebook listings, those are off-site links. If you make recommendations for other people in your circle of contacts and include your web site address as part of your signature then you have even more. Make dozens of good recommendations and receive them in return. It’s truly a “giver’s gain” world there.

Add to this some effective Public Relations campaigns and you can really begin to boost our rankings. Write articles like this to online magazines and make links to your web site part of your signature. It takes some real honest to goodness work but the results can be magic in your rankings. There is more on how all this works in one of our blog articles: The Most Important Key to Web Site Traffic! You can look it up on the blog listed in the bio below.

Business Development – Marketing – Sales

We all know that strength of a warm lead. All the initial hurdles have been jumped. LinkedIn contacts can help you get to the right people. Interested in doing business with Acme Widgets? Do a search in LinkedIn for current and former employees of the company. Find out if any of them are connected to someone you know in your circle. If so, ask that contact to give you a formal introduction.

Before you meet that contact look over their interests if posted. Going to meet someone who is President of the company you want to work with? Look them up in advance and discover their interests and background. See who they know that you may also know. Create common interests and connections from that information and start the conversation warmly.

Did you know that ALL 500 of the Fortune 500 companies are represented on LinkedIn? Either the CEOs or the upper level management are to be found there. There must be something to it. Those who are active on it may just be looking for you and who you are on LinkedIn. If you’re not there they may wonder why. This is dang near as good as the Mason secret handshake without all the silly rituals or red beanie cap.

For a good article on warm calling using LinkedIn see A Guide To Business Development 2.0.

When searching for companies, uncheck “current companies only” and find out what former employees have to say about the company. What kind of talent has left the company and how fast? Contact them and find out things the company may not want you to know. Learn their weaknesses and how to market to it. The list is endless.

Increase Your Own Credibility

Imagine that before agreeing to see you on a sales call the business owner checks to see if you are on LinkedIn. Not being there could be a strike against you because he feels he’s flying a little blind in your regard. If you are there, he or she may want to see your background, your connections, or your recommendations. Finding numerous positive reviews from others who have worked with you can create a positive frame of mind. If they know some of the same people you do it can get even better.

Here it can get even better – receiving calls from buyers who found you on LinkedIn and want to buy something from you. Shocking? See how all this can work in the real world in Using LinkedIn to Make the Sale.

Career Enhancement and Job Search

Enhance your efforts in searching for a job or finding qualified applicants for positions you need to fill. It should be no stretch to your imagination at this point on how you can take advantage of this when looking for career advancement. Use your LinkedIn link as part of your email signature or refer to it in your resume. A large number of HR people and managers will recognize it. If you’ve done your homework and have numerous recommendations it can really work in your behalf. Make friends and get recommendations before you need them. The best way is to start by recommending others first.

For more on this check out “Ten Ways to Use LinkedIn”.

Increase Your Website’s Visibility

As I stated in the beginning of this article there are two main things that can positively affect your website ranking and visibility with search engines. The first, and least important are your on-site factors. The most important is your off-site factors. This aspect it mostly ignored by business owners and web developers. It is all part of true professional web development. In this regard you will truly get what you paid for.

If you are a member of LinkedIn you can go to your Home page and you will see a button you can use to paste for a signature on your site or emails that will link the reader to your profile.
