How do I delete my youtube account and create one with a different name?

My youtube account is linked to my google account. When I tried to delete it and add a new one, it told me it was still linked to the old one. Does it take some time to become unlinked after you delete it? Or is it permanently linked to that particular email address and you can never put another youtube account onto it?
